Used for repair work where a stronger paper is required such as infilling areas torn out. It can be tinted with dilute acrylics or dye. It can be used as a backing to thinner material for endpapers and is good to experiment with other applications.
I have used it for hinge repairs as with the 'rice' papers - really a Kozo and wood pulp strong paper in a range of colours.
It is also used for laminating thin materials such as papers, silk and fabrics in order to make a firm bookcloth. It is best if kept to smaller books as the hinging is not as strong as using Calico to laminate to.
If the material is a natural fibre use a starch paste. If a synthetic then a slightly dilute PVA is necessary. The paste is completely non-staining, if the PVA is diluted so that it wets evenly it should not stain.
